An Athens tram driver will face disciplinary action after a video showing him smoking inside the cab while the tram was moving circulated online, the service’s operating company STASY said.
The footage shows the driver with his shoes off, his feet resting on the driving console and smoking a cigarette while operating the tram. He can also be seen flicking cigarette ash onto the floor of the cab.
STASY said it had launched an investigation after reports and posts circulating on social media regarding a video showing a tram driver failing to comply with the expected standards of professional conduct and operating behavior.
“Compliance with operating, professional conduct and safety rules is a non-negotiable obligation for all staff and any relevant violation is dealt with according to the prescribed procedures,” the company said.
