City Power has paid Eskom more than R4.3 billion towards its outstanding electricity debt
The City of Johannesburg has paid Eskom more than R4.3 billion towards its outstanding electricity debt, as the utility works to avoid a possible interruption of power supply to Johannesburg.
IOL previously reported that Eskom announced that it may reduce, interrupt, or cut electricity to parts of Johannesburg after the city and City Power failed to pay more than R5bn in outstanding debt.
The utility said it had received and was reviewing representations from residents and other affected stakeholders following the PAJA process initiated over the unpaid electricity account.
Eskom said that while the payments made by City Power and the City of Johannesburg showed progress, the outstanding debt had not yet been fully settled.
