UNESCO has added a group of 13 buildings designed by Alvar Aalto, Aino Aalto and Elissa Aalto to the World Heritage List, giving international recognition to a body of Finnish architecture that links modern design with public health, housing, culture and civic life.
The decision was taken on 26 July at a meeting of the World Heritage Committee in Busan, South Korea.
The group, named Aalto Works, becomes Finland’s eighth World Heritage site and the first new Finnish addition to the list since the Kvarken Archipelago received the status in 2006.
