Kaizer Chiefs claimed the Toyota Cup for the first time after Mfundo Vilakazi’s first-half strike earned Amakhosi a deserved 1-0 victory over Zimbabwean champions Scottland FC at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Sunday.

The result handed new head coach Fernando da Cruz his first piece of silverware since taking charge and provided Chiefs with the perfect conclusion to their pre-season preparations ahead of next weekend’s Betway Premiership opener.

Having fallen short in the previous two editions of the Toyota Cup, Amakhosi approached the encounter determined to make it third time lucky in front of an enthusiastic crowd in Rustenburg. The match began at a frantic pace, with both sides looking to impose themselves during an entertaining opening quarter of an hour.
