Western Cape police have arrested the alleged mastermind behind the murder of Democratic Alliance (DA) candidate councillor Sinovuyo Miranda Dyokwe, marking a significant breakthrough in a case that has raised concerns over political violence and extortion in local communities.
The 37-year-old suspect was arrested in Parklands on Saturday during a joint intelligence-driven operation involving the Western Cape Serious Violent Crime Investigation (SVCI) unit and the SAPS Special Task Force.
According to police, the suspect had allegedly been evading arrest before investigators tracked him down following information received from members of the public.
Police spokesperson Colonel Andrè Traut said the arrest was the result of a painstaking investigation into Dyokwe’s killing.
