Sinovuyo Dyokwe, 48, a Dunoon community activist and ward candidate, was shot and killed on Saturday evening.
“I fear for my life, I left my house and I am currently in hiding because of fear that Mr AV can come and kill me anytime”
These were the words of slain DA ward candidate Sinovuyo Dyokwe in a sworn affidavit to police in February, claiming she had been instructed to pay a protection fee linked to a temporary relocation project in Dunoon undertaken by a non-profit organisation.
She further told police that she was no longer living at her home and was in hiding because she feared a man she identified as a taxi owner in the township, who had allegedly instructed her to pay protection money to a "Gupta" racket.
According to the affidavit, the threats dated back to 2024 and included an incident in which Dyokwe was allegedly confronted by seven armed men while walking with her brother in Dunoon.
