The human rights organisation made the call on Saturday while expressing concern over the continued captivity of the students, who were abducted during an attack on Government Day Secondary School, Lassa, in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
Global human rights organisation, the Amnesty International, has called on the Nigerian government to urgently secure the release of 36 school children who remain in captivity following an attack on a secondary school in Borno State, insisting that "no child should have to choose between their education and their life."
The human rights organisation made the call on Saturday while expressing concern over the continued captivity of the students, who were abducted during an attack on Government Day Secondary School, Lassa, in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
According to Amnesty International, the abduction occurred on June 29, 2026, when armed men invaded the school and disrupted the ongoing National Examinations Council (NECO) examinations.
"On 29 June 2026, gunmen disrupted ongoing NECO examinations at Government Day Secondary School Lassa Askira Uba LGA of Borno State with an attack in which 36 school children were abducted, while two teachers," the organisation stated.
