Amnesty International Raises Fresh Alarm Over Borno, Oyo Schoolchildren, Says School Abductions Are 'War Crimes'

Global human rights watchdog, the Amnesty International Nigeria, has raised serious concerns over the safety of dozens of schoolchildren and teachers recently abducted in Borno and Oyo states, warning that the captives face a severe risk of harm.

In a strongly worded statement, the organisation condemned the rising wave of school kidnappings across the country, reminding the Nigerian government that targeted attacks on educational institutions constitute a gross violation of international law.

Highlighting the urgency of the situation, Amnesty International called for immediate action to secure the release of the victims, who were taken during coordinated attacks by armed groups in mid-May.

"The children abducted in Borno and Oyo are at serious risk of being harmed," the human rights group stated.
