President Cyril Ramaphosa has successfully secured a stay in impeachment proceedings following a ruling by the Western Cape High Court, which has significant implications for his presidency.
The Western Cape High Court vindicated President Cyril Ramaphosa on Friday, when Judge André le Grange ordered a stay in impeachment proceedings.
The matter was heard by a full bench of the High Court, comprising Judge Diane Davis, Judge Matthew Francis, and Acting Deputy Judge President (ADJP) of the Western Cape High Court, André le Grange, resulting in two judgments.
ADJP Le Grange confirmed the two judgments, in which the minority concluded that the president failed to make out a case for interim relief.
The majority concluded differently, granting the relief sought by Ramaphosa, which would be an interdict of limited duration.
