Shadi (Khadijeh) Shadman is a 41-year-old single mother of a nine-year-old daughter. Arrested during the January protests in Malard, she has now been sentenced to a total of eight years of discretionary imprisonment (ta’zir) by Branch 28 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Amozad. The charges brought against Shadman include “assembly and collusion against national security,” “insulting the Supreme Leader,” and “propaganda against the system.” A source close to Shadman told IranWire that she weeps in her cell out of profound concern for her child’s vulnerable situation.
“Shadi was arrested on the night of January 10 in Malard. Like many other detained citizens, agents raided her ex-husband’s home at night and took her away when she went there to drop off her child,” said an informed source close to Shadman.
The woman now faces eight years in prison while her nine-year-old daughter remains without primary care. “Shadi was divorced, but shortly before these events, her ex-husband asked for a second chance. However, now that Shadi is imprisoned, he has refused to take responsibility for the child and has sent her to live with his sister in Mashhad.”
According to the source, Shadman was initially transferred from Malard to a detention centre in eastern Tehran before being moved to Evin Prison on January 29.
