In light of recent violations, the Road Freight Association demands enhanced safety inspections for trucks carrying hazardous materials to protect road users.
The Road Freight Association (RFA) stressed the importance of regular safety checks on the dangerous goods legislation after police inspections of 200 trucks.
The RFA made the statement after 16 trucks carrying hazardous materials were found to be in breach of safety regulations, resulting in fines totalling R102,500.
A total of 201 dangerous goods vehicles were stopped and inspected within a six‑hour period.
The eThekwini Municipality Fire Services Directorate led multidisciplinary roadblocks at the Marriannhill Toll Plaza and along the M7 in partnership with Durban Metro Police, the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI), and the Road Traffic Infringement Agency.
