Retired teachers speak out on nepotism and bribery claims

FOR two retired KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education employees, the alleged selling of posts for teachers and principals and nepotism is not “something new”.

A former acting principal at a school in Chatsworth said she was allegedly told to pay R90,000 to be appointed to the post, but she declined.

“After the principal retired, I was chosen to act in the position, as I served at the school for more than 30 years. I had also applied for the position. I was then approached by someone in a senior department position to meet them. When I went to meet them, I was told to leave my handbag and cellphone in the car, and to “take a walk”.

“During this time, the person told me that the post would be mine, but I had to pay R90,000. I was in shock and refused, as I was not going to be fired and lose my pension fund because of corruption,” she claimed.
