Russian scientists developed a mathematical model to simulate how organs deteriorate due to the accumulation of DNA mutations, known as somatic mutations, over time. The research assumed an ideal scenario where all other major ageing factors, such as chronic inflammation and mitochondrial dysfunction, were eliminated. Under these theoretical conditions, the model predicted a median human lifespan of 146 to 194 years, roughly double the current average. The study highlights that DNA mutations, particularly affecting vulnerable organs like the brain and heart, would remain the primary obstacle to achieving extreme longevity.
