OpenAI said it plans to spend tens of billions of dollars to build a massive data centre in the US state of Georgia that’s intended to begin construction in 2028 and scale up to 3.2 gigawatts of compute capacity by 2032.
The project, intended for a site in Effingham County, near Savannah, would probably cost more than $30 billion (£22bn) to reach its full scale, OpenAI said.
The company has committed to spending $20bn in the county to qualify for an incentive package that is due to be voted on this week, it said.
