A grieving Pelican Park family met with police this week, calling for justice following the death of their 24-year-old daughter who was gang raped by three men.
Three relatives of the victim are now facing a charge of kidnapping in the Wynberg Regional Court, with allegations that they had participated in a form of mob justice after the case of rape was provisionally struck off the roll.
The victim, Liezel Scheepers, who leaves behind a minor child, was gang raped in January 2025 in Eagle Park, Pelican Park.
Scheepers’s mother, Esmerelda Scheepers, who is one of the accused in the kidnapping case, said her daughter had suffered for months with health complications following the attack.
