Residents of the Riemvasmaak informal settlement are calling for police to arrest the rape suspect.
A Cape Town community is in turmoil after the brutal rape of a 16-year-old girl in Phumlani Village, Lotus River, on Saturday, July 4.
The teenager went missing earlier that day in the Riemvasmaak informal settlement, triggering a desperate search by local residents.
As the hours passed, the community scoured the area, unaware that the perpetrator was among those assisting in the search for the missing girl.
Family spokesperson and community worker, Beryl Williams, said that as searches were ongoing, no one knew the perpetrator was among them assisting with the searches.
