Bonteheuwel spaza shop owner Umar was gunned down on 13 July.

As police intensified efforts to root out extortion in the Western Cape, Bonteheuwel ward councillor Angus McKenzie voiced his disappointment after charges were dropped against the alleged killers of a popular Somali shopkeeper.

The shopkeeper, known as Umar, was gunned down on July 13 in Bonteheuwel.

On the CCTV footage of the shocking incident, a woman can be seen, allegedly pretending to be a customer, when a male appears, shoots Umar and then hands the firearm over to the female.

The two suspects fled the scene.
