An alleged gang of extortists terrorising spaza shops has been busted, with four suspects arrested for the murder of a shop owner in Bonteheuwel.
This comes as police are clamping down on extortists targeting spaza shop owners for protection money in various communities such as Nyanga, Elsies River, Bonteheuwel and Franschhoek.
Police spokesperson, Ndakhe Gwala, said the four suspects are believed to be linked to the murder and extortion of a spaza shop owner in Bonteheuwel.
The Somalian shop owner, identified as Umar, was shot and killed on July 13, while serving customers in Assegaai Street.
