Police have arrested eight suspects linked to spaza shop extortions and killings
Western Cape police have intensified their crackdown on extortion syndicates targeting spaza shops across the province, arresting eight suspects in separate operations in Franschhoek and Bonteheuwel linked to a string of extortion-related murders.
Four suspects are expected to appear in the Paarl Magistrate's Court on Monday after they were arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of four people at a spaza shop in Langrug, Franschhoek.
In a separate intelligence-driven operation, four more suspects were arrested in Bonteheuwel for allegedly extorting spaza shop owners and are being investigated for the murder of a shop owner earlier last week.
Western Cape police spokesperson Constable Ndakhe Gwala said the murders were linked to extortion.
