Social Development Minister Dina Pule on Tuesday announced plans to recruit more than 1,000 contract workers to reduce long queues at SASSA offices.
Social Development Minister Dina Pule has announced that more than 1,000 contract workers will be deployed to South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) offices across the country as government moves to reduce long queues, improve service delivery and intensify social grant reviews aimed at protecting public funds.
Speaking during a media briefing at the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) on Tuesday afternoon, Pule said restoring dignity to grant beneficiaries had become one of her immediate priorities after receiving numerous complaints about overcrowded SASSA offices.
"In the few days in office, I received complaints regarding our people standing in long queues in most of our offices and had to step in urgently to understand the cause and seek immediate intervention to bring back dignity and respect," Pule said.
"I will use this position to restore the aspirations, confidence and dignity to all our social grant beneficiaries and communities who are facing long queues and frustrations in most of our offices."
