Social Development Minister Dina Pule announced new measures at SASSA to address long queues and improve grant reviews, aiming to enhance service delivery and combat fraud.
South Africa's social grant system is undergoing one of its biggest verification drives in years, with SASSA planning to review more than 350,000 grants this financial year while introducing new measures aimed at reducing long queues and improving service delivery.
According to Pule, SASSA is legally required to review grants under the Social Assistance Act to ensure beneficiaries still meet eligibility requirements.
The reviews assess whether there have been changes in a person's income, financial position, marital status, medical condition or other circumstances that could affect their qualification for a grant.
"Reviews help ensure that beneficiaries continue to meet the eligibility requirements for the grants they receive," Pule said.
