Power cuts have been reported in several parts of Athens on Monday, as soaring temperatures and increased electricity consumption put pressure on the power grid.
Outages have been recorded in areas including Argyroupoli in southern Athens, the vicinity of Larissis railway station, and Neo Iraklio in the northern part of the city. Electricity supply is expected to be restored early Monday evening, according to the electricity distribution network operator DEDDIE.
Heatwave conditions have affected most parts of Greece, with temperatures reaching 40 to 41 degrees Celsius on Monday. Forecasts indicate that temperatures could climb to as high as 43 degrees Celsius on Tuesday before a significant drop expected on Wednesday, mainly in central and northern Greece.
Despite the cooler conditions forecast from Wednesday onwards, heatwave conditions are expected to continue in parts of southern Greece.
