A shared vision between the Mercury Hibberdene Children's Holiday Home and Humanity SA has blossomed into a sustainable vegetable garden initiative that will continue making a difference long after Mandela Month has ended.
The Mercury Hibberdene Children's Holiday Home, one of Independent Media's charity funds, is situated on KZN's scenic south coast and offers underprivileged children the opportunity to enjoy a two-night seaside holiday throughout the year. During their stay, the children are provided with comfortable accommodation, meals, and take part in team-building and mentorship programmes in a safe, caring environment.
The garden initiative came about after Independent Media’s CSI manager and project coordinator, Sameera Kareem, approached Humanity SA founder and chairman, Muhammad Masoom Bagdadi, with the idea.
“My vision was to establish a sustainable vegetable garden that would not only provide fresh, nutritious vegetables for the home's kitchen but also create an opportunity to generate an income through the sale of surplus produce," said Kareem.
