Volunteers pack nutritious food parcels for vulnerable families as part of a Mandela Month initiative aimed at improving food security for children and communities across South Africa.
Thousands of children attending schools and early childhood development (ECD) centres across South Africa are among the beneficiaries of a Mandela Month initiative that delivered food parcels and established food-producing gardens to help improve food security.
FirstRand Volunteers (FRV) mobilised 2 500 employees across all nine provinces to work alongside Meals on Wheels, packing 2 500 nutritious food parcels for vulnerable families and creating food-producing garden planters for schools, ECD centres, old age homes and community-based organisations.
Volunteers participated in a nationwide Mandela Month campaign supporting schools, early childhood development centres and vulnerable communities through food security initiatives.
The Mandela Month programme, valued at more than R10 million, provided food supplies, agricultural inputs, garden infrastructure, seedlings, compost, irrigation support and ongoing training.
