Resilience has been the defining trait of South Africa's world champion Junior Springbok side, according to coach Kevin Foote after his team ground out a memorable 16-5 victory over France to retain the World Rugby Under-20 Championship title in Tbilisi on Saturday.
Having overcome an hour-long weather delay before kick-off and then absorbed wave after wave of French pressure, the Junior Boks produced a defensive masterclass to claim South Africa's third world title at this level and second in succession.
For Foote, the triumph was about far more than the final score.
"It means everything to us; it means everything to South Africa," the emotional coach said afterwards.
