Junior Springbok fullback Akahluwa Boqwana brings some relief with a kick against Georgia. The South Africans are unbeaten after two group games at the Junior World Championship.

The Junior Springboks overcame another significant hurdle at the Junior World Championship with a hard-fought 33-5 victory over tournament hosts Georgia in a bruising Pool A clash in Tbilisi.

Their second consecutive bonus-point win on Thursday puts the South Africans firmly in control of the group standings, with top spot now set to be decided when they face Wales in their final pool match on Tuesday.

It was a performance built on relentless attacking play and a disciplined defensive effort as the Baby Boks gradually wore down a determined Georgian outfit. Although the hosts spent long periods of the contest reduced to 13 men after a red card and yellow cards, they refused to buckle, producing a heroic defensive effort in front of a passionate home crowd that created a hostile atmosphere throughout.

The South Africans initially found it difficult to break through Georgia’s stubborn resistance, but their patience and physicality eventually paid off as they pulled clear in the second half to secure another valuable five-point haul.
