Durban businessman, Shailen Singh, was killed in December 2024.

After months of delays and court appearances, the family of slain Durban businessman Shailen Singh says it is hoping his murder trial will finally get under way in the Durban High Court on Monday.

At the centre of the case are security company owner Ferrel Govender and his younger brother, Darren Govender, who stand accused of murdering Singh in Umhlanga in December 2024.

For Singh's father, Pradeep Singh, the impending trial represents more than another court date — it is an opportunity for his son's story to be heard.

"Every time we come to court, we are reminded of how our lives changed forever. There is a mixture of anxiety, grief, and hope," he said.
