Greece has issued more than 5,000 permits for repairs to buildings damaged by Storm Daniel, with government aid for the approved projects totaling about €36.5 million, the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection said.

The permits followed inspections of nearly 30,000 buildings affected by the devastating floods that hit central Greece in 2023.

Authorities began issuing repair approvals in August 2024, after completing the assessments, and later accelerated the process through a simplified compensation system based on fixed payments per square meter.

The central Thessaly region recorded the highest number of approvals, with 2,048 permits issued in the Karditsa regional unit. The municipality of Palamas alone received 1,400 permits, totaling about €12.1 million in state assistance.

Officials said more than 12,000 of nearly 13,900 submitted applications have been processed, with efforts continuing to speed up reconstruction while managing recovery from other natural disasters across Greece.
