North West businessman Suliman Carrim faces scrutiny as the Madlanga Commission postpones his application to delay testimony, demanding the disclosure of crucial evidence amid allegations of health-related absences.
The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry on Friday postponed North West businessman Suliman Carrim's application to delay his testimony until next week, ordering the commission to disclose cellphone geolocation records and other investigative material it may rely on in opposing the application.
The postponement application will now be heard at 11.30am on Friday, July 24, after the commission said it received Carrim's papers only at 3.30am on Friday, leaving insufficient time to prepare a response.
Announcing the agreement reached between the commission's legal team and Carrim's representatives, evidence leader Advocate Matthew Chaskalson SC said the application raised substantial issues that required careful consideration.
"Unfortunately, it was not possible to meet the timetables that were laid down for this application," Chaskalson told the commission.
