The Madlanga Commission on Friday reserved judgment after hearing competing arguments over whether North West businessman Suliman Carrim should receive an open-ended postponement or return to testify on a fixed date following an independent medical assessment.
Although neither side argued that Carrim should testify on Friday, they differed sharply on the terms of any postponement. Carrim is seeking an open-ended delay on medical grounds.
At the same time, the commission wants any postponement to be linked to a fixed return date and an independent assessment of his medical fitness to testify.
Carrim is expected to give evidence before the Madlanga Commission, which is investigating allegations of corruption, criminality, and the alleged infiltration of South Africa's criminal justice system.
