Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy Minister Vasilis Kikilias discussed the issues at the port of Rafina in an interview with Skai radio on Thursday, talking about its operation, the safe handling of increased ferry traffic, the benefits of healthy competition, and plans to consider the port’s future with the local community after the end of the tourist season.
Kikilias stressed that the increase in the number of vessels operating from Rafina has increased competition and led to a significant reduction in ferry fares.
He announced that discussions with the municipality and local stakeholders will begin after the tourist season to determine the future direction of the port.
He stated that, should the local community request restrictions on ferry traffic, he would be prepared to consider such a measure, but cautioned that any such decision would have implications for the area’s economic activity.
