Rooibos seeds will be launched to the International Space Station in October.

Everyone enjoys a strong cup of rooibos tea, but have you ever thought about sending it to space?

A South African scientific initiative linking space research and agriculture officially launched the Rooibos in Space programme on Thursday.

In a first for South Africa, rooibos seeds will be sent to the International Space Station (ISS), combining space-based plant science with hands-on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education.

The Rooibos in Space programme was launched on Thursday in Cape Town.
