ROOIBOS tea has conquered markets around the world. Now South Africa's iconic brew is about to embark on its most extraordinary journey yet, into space.
This October, Rooibos seeds will be launched to the International Space Station (ISS), about 400km above Earth, where they will spend several weeks exposed to microgravity and space radiation in the first South African project of its kind.
When they return early next year, they will be planted alongside identical seeds that never left Earth.
Then scientists and pupils will compare how they germinate, grow, withstand stress and produce yield.
