AmaZulu king Misuzulu kaZwelithini with inkosi Phathisizwe Chiliza during their trip to London last year
As part of protecting and preserving the king’s integrity and the crown, the newly-appointed Zulu Traditional Prime Minister inkosi Phathisizwe Chiliza has called for the ban of government branding at all cultural events in the Zulu kingdom calendar.
In an interview on Thursday, Chiliza thanked and saluted king Misuzulu kaZwelithini for entrusting him with a crucial position in the Zulu kingdom, promising to handle the position with the respect and dignity it deserves. Outlining his vision, he said that his first priority will be ensuring that the king and the crown’s integrity is adequately protected, especially from abuse by politicians and government. He argued that advising and protecting the king and the crown’s integrity forms the core responsibility of the Traditional Prime Minister, working with his council and the House of Traditional Leaders.
“In events such as the Battle of Isandlwana commemoration, we have seen government banners and faces of politicians flying everywhere. This is not supposed to happen. We need to see only the kingdom’s branding bearing the king’s face, irrespective of whether the event is funded by the government or not. This must happen to protect and preserve His Majesty’s dignity and image as he is above politics,” said Chiliza.
