KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli said the new board brings together experts in law, cultural heritage, finance, and policy development.
The newly appointed chairperson of the Board of the Royal House Trust, Professor Gugu Mazibuko, has stated that the key focus of the new board is to fundraise and gradually wean the trust off government reliance.
She was announced by KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thami Ntuli during the tabling of the department's budget for the 2026-2027 financial year on Tuesday. The Mercury understands that the entity has been without a board since 2023.
In a brief interview yesterday, Mazibuko said the board will be focused on delivering on the mandate that has been set. “I cannot speak in detail at the moment as there have not been any strategy planning sessions as a board, but what I can say is that the key mandate of this board will be to fundraise for the Royal House Trust and gradually make the trust financially independent. We will be able to deliver on this mandate as the board is made up of a variety of highly skilled people,” she said.
The Premier stated that there are already business opportunities being considered for fundraising activities by the trust, including the building of student accommodations that could generate revenue and make the trust financially stable.
