The parliamentary group of “Revival” launched sharp criticism against the government’s foreign policy, with MP Angel Georgiev presenting a declaration in parliament. The statement was made following Foreign Minister Velislava Petrova’s visit to Kyiv.
According to Georgiev, Bulgaria’s foreign policy has become dependent on external interests, while the country’s leadership is prioritizing Ukraine’s agenda instead of defending Bulgarian national priorities.
“Bulgaria’s state leadership is working for foreign interests rather than for the interests of Bulgarian citizens,” Georgiev said, accusing the government of taking decisions that do not reflect the country’s needs.
The party also raised concerns over issues related to energy policy and the possible consequences of the foreign minister’s visit to Kyiv. “Revival” questioned whether the talks could lead to increased natural gas supplies for Ukraine and what impact this could have on major Bulgarian energy projects, including the Belene Nuclear Power Plant. The party also linked these issues to Bulgaria’s agreement with Turkish company Botas.
The declaration also challenged statements that Bulgarian diplomacy had played a decisive role in excluding Russian Patriarch Kirill from the EU’s 21st package of sanctions against Russia. According to Georgiev, the main contribution came from Italy and the Vatican rather than from Bulgarian authorities.
