The leader of opposition party “Revival,” Kostadin Kostadinov, sharply criticized Bulgaria’s current stance on the war in Ukraine, arguing that the country is continuing the same foreign policy line set by previous administrations. He claimed that Bulgaria is expected to keep providing military equipment, weapons, and financial support to Kyiv, despite what he described as a lack of any clear policy shift following Prime Minister Rumen Radev’s recent visit to NATO headquarters.
Speaking in parliament, Kostadinov contrasted Bulgaria’s position with that of Hungarian Prime Minister Magyar, whom he said has announced an end to military assistance for Ukraine. He also accused Bulgarian authorities of supporting higher defense spending, allegedly up to 5% of GDP, despite domestic economic pressures.
“I do not believe that any of Radev’s voters, although I say again, I cannot speak on their behalf, voted for him with the idea that he would continue the policies of GERB, DPS, BSP, ‘There Is Such a People,’” Kostadinov said, arguing that voters expected a break from past governance models. He added that instead of change, he sees continuity in existing political practices.
He further criticized statements made after NATO-related discussions, suggesting they lacked substance and contrasted them with what he described as a firmer stance taken by Hungarian leadership shortly after similar meetings.
