The human rights organisation said Bonet has remained in arbitrary detention for 21 days at the police tactical unit known as "Operation Fushin Kada," describing his continued incarceration as unlawful and a blatant violation of his fundamental rights.
The Amnesty International has renewed its call for the immediate and unconditional release of Kaduna-based activist Jonah Bonet, popularly known as "Pompo," accusing the Kaduna State Government of using the police to punish him for criticising Governor Uba Sani.
The human rights organisation said Bonet has remained in arbitrary detention for 21 days at the police tactical unit known as "Operation Fushin Kada," describing his continued incarceration as unlawful and a blatant violation of his fundamental rights.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Amnesty International alleged that Bonet's detention was directly linked to his criticism of the Kaduna State governor, insisting that no one should be deprived of their liberty for exercising the right to freedom of expression.
According to Amnesty International, Bonet was arrested at about 8:15pm on June 23, 2026, after armed security operatives reportedly stormed his residence in Abuja.
