Residents of Omupo in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State have rescued a baby boy abandoned along a farm road shortly after birth.
PUNCH Online gathered that the newborn, who still had his placenta attached, was found by passersby, who alerted other residents before taking him to Omupo Cottage Hospital for medical attention.
Confirming the incident on Monday, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Ismail Bakare, said the baby was brought to the facility alive and has since been placed under medical observation.
“The baby was brought to the hospital after being found abandoned along a farm path. He is stable and responding well to treatment,” Bakare said.
He added that although the infant survived the conditions in which he was found, he would require sustained medical care, proper nutrition and adequate support in the coming weeks.
