Activists demand immediate action against Advocate Andrea Johnson and investigator Sunil Belochan following serious allegations of extortion involving Pakistani shopkeepers in the Eastern Cape.

The Activists and Citizens Forum is pushing for immediate action against Advocate Andrea Johnson, who heads the Investigation Directorate for Allegations of Corruption (IDAC), and senior investigator Sunil Belochan, following corruption and extortion allegations.

The extortion allegations involved Pakistani shopkeepers in the Eastern Cape, which dated back to the early 2000s, which were brought to light during the testimony of Witness N at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry on Friday.

Witness N, a member of the KwaZulu-Natal Political Killings Task Team, claimed that Belochan coerced multiple Pakistani business owners into making unjust protection payments by taking advantage of their lack of adequate documentation and business permits.

Asif Mohammed, one of the affected shopkeepers, raised concerns with Witness N regarding Belochan’s credibility and professional conduct, and questioned how he was able to serve in a prominent position at IDAC.
