The sporting world is mourning the deaths of Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Jayden "Grootman" Adams, 25, and former South Africa Under-18 rugby prop Luqobo "Bibo" Makwedini, 20, who reportedly died in France after a training session with his club, AS Béziers Hérault. Cape Town police have opened an inquest into the circumstances surrounding Adams' death.
“I am a grootman now!” Jayden Adams was simply replying to a question about his fresh, new bald look when he uttered those words last season.
But as it turned out, he would live up to that tag of being a grootman right until his final day – for his family, country, and club. Adams tragically passed away yesterday while reportedly at a Cape Town hotel.
The exact details surrounding his death remain unconfirmed, as his family, Bafana Bafana, and his club, Mamelodi Sundowns, had not issued an official statement at the time of publication.
“Cape Town Central police station registered an inquest for investigation following the discovery of the body of a 25-year-old male at a premises in Military Road, Scotscheskloof,” Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirmed to our sister publication, IOL.
