The trial on the fatal attack against police officer Giorgos Lyggeridis, 31, by Olympiacos hooligans hit a snag Tuesday when only two of 10 summoned witnesses appeared, causing proceedings at the capital’s Korydallos Prison to end earlier than expected.
Lyggeridis’ parents left the courtroom disappointed, saying witnesses are afraid to describe what happened the night of December 7, 2023, inside and outside Olympiacοs’ indoor arena in Rentis, near Piraeus.
“Neither witnesses nor defendants came today. Only we, Giorgos’ parents, came,” his mother said bitterly, renewing her appeal to move the trial from the prison courtroom to the Athens Court of Appeals – a request all parties have agreed to.
