A prosecutor investigating the murder of a woman by her former partner outside an Athens police station on April 1, 2024, is recommending that four police officers stand trial for the felony of fatal exposure by omission.

The individuals include the supervisor, the duty officer, the officer who witnessed the crime without intervening and the emergency dispatch operator who dismissed the victim’s pleas for safe transport home, telling her, “Patrol cars are not taxis.” All four were charged in January 2025.

The prosecutor said the officers “had a special legal obligation by law to take action to prevent the outcome and left a person they had under their protection helpless, and their act caused the death of the victim.”

She also said that the restrictive conditions imposed on the defendants should be maintained. The final decision for the referral of the four officers lies with a judicial council.

Kyriaki Griva, 28, was stabbed to death by her ex-partner shortly after leaving the police station in Agioi Anargyroi, where she had gone to report him for stalking and to request a police escort home.
