Two of three police officers on trial for alleged rape of a 19-year-old woman inside a central Athens police station in October 2022 have admitted in court to having sexual intercourse with the complainant while on duty, but denied any coercion, insisting the act was consensual.
The defendants, testifying before a Mixed Jury Court in Athens, described their actions, at Omonia police station, as a “mistake” and “inappropriate for officers on duty,” while maintaining that the woman showed no resistance or signs of refusal.
The third officer, the head of their DIAS motorbike police unit, stated he was unaware of any incident occurring inside the station’s locker rooms that night.
According to the case file, the three officers brought the 19-year-old to the police station, where two of them are accused of engaging in sexual acts with her in the locker room, with the alleged acts also captured on video.
One defendant told the court the woman initially approached his patrol unit, while it was on duty in the Thissio area, roughly two kilometers from Omonia, seeking information and to file a complaint, later exchanging contact details.
