A court on Friday convicted two police officers of jointly raping a 19-year-old woman in a case involving the Omonia police station in central Athens, rejecting the prosecutor’s recommendation for their acquittal.
The Athens Mixed Jury Court found the two officers guilty by a majority decision. One of them was also unanimously convicted of illegally processing personal data after being accused of recording the alleged acts with a camera attached to a bag he was carrying, according to the charges.
A third police officer, who faced charges of aiding and abetting rape, was acquitted by a majority decision.
The court adjourned after announcing the verdict and was expected to reconvene later Friday to consider whether to grant mitigating circumstances and determine the sentences for the two convicted officers.
