Addressing reporters after the court session, Sowore maintained that the case against him was politically motivated and formed part of a broader campaign to silence his voice and activism.
Human rights activist and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, on Monday declared that he is standing trial at the Federal High Court in Abuja not because he committed any crime but because of his unwavering commitment to defending the rights of Nigerians and speaking against injustice.
Sowore spoke to journalists after proceedings in the case filed against him by the Department of State Services (DSS), in which he is being prosecuted over allegations that referred to President Bola Tinubu as a criminal.
Addressing reporters after the court session, Sowore maintained that the case against him was politically motivated and formed part of a broader campaign to silence his voice and activism.
"I'm not appearing here because I committed any crime. I'm in court and I'm being persecuted because I decided to stand up to be counted on the side of rights in this country,” he said.
