At least 10 people were killed and dozens more injured after Russia launched a large-scale overnight missile and drone assault on Kyiv and the surrounding region on July 5-6, causing widespread destruction to residential buildings and civilian infrastructure. Rescue operations remain underway, and officials have warned that the casualty toll could still rise as emergency crews continue searching through the rubble.
According to Ukraine's Office of the Prosecutor General, "as of 08:00 on July 6, 10 people have been confirmed killed and 46 injured following a combined Russian attack on the capital." Two children were among those hurt. Authorities said the heaviest damage occurred in Kyiv's Darnytskyi and Podilskyi districts, while strikes and falling missile and drone debris also caused destruction in the Holosiivskyi and Obolonskyi districts.
One of the deadliest strikes hit a residential building in the Podilskyi district, where a missile caused the collapse of apartments between the fourth and eighth floors of a nine-story building. Emergency workers continue searching for survivors trapped beneath the debris, while psychologists are assisting residents and relatives at the scene.
In the Darnytskyi district, another missile strike destroyed apartments on the lower floors of a 25-story residential building. Debris also struck a separate 30-story apartment tower, sparking fires on its upper floors as residents were evacuated. Mayor Vitali Klitschko said 22 people were rescued from the damaged building, where two bodies were later recovered. Additional fires broke out at several residential buildings across the city, while warehouses, garages, non-residential buildings, and open areas also caught fire after being hit by missiles or falling debris.
