The Greater Chennai Traffic Police arrested a 42-year-old man for allowing his 17-year-old son to ride a motorcycle, which caused an accident that killed one person in Pulianthope.The police said that when Madhura, 54, of Gurusamy Nagar was cycling near a private school on Pulianthope High Road on June 28, a speeding motorcycle collided with him. Madhura sustained a head injury in the fall. A 108 ambulance team provided first aid at the spot, and he returned home since he appeared to be stable. However, his condition worsened, and he was admitted to the Government Stanley Medical College Hospital.Based on a complaint, the Pulianthope Traffic Police registered a case and launched an investigation. Madhura succumbed to his injuries on the afternoon of July 4. Following his death, the case was altered to include charges relating to causing death by negligent driving and other relevant provisions.During the investigation, the police found that a 17-year-old boy rode the motorcycle. The police arrested the boy’s father, Amirjan of Pulianthope, on Sunday for enabling underage driving. He was remanded in judicial custody.The Greater Chennai Traffic Police urged motorists to drive responsibly, strictly follow traffic regulations, and respect the value of human life. The police also warned parents and guardians against allowing minors to operate motor vehicles, stating that legal action would be taken against those who permit underage children to drive.
