Sofia is set to host the European Championship for children under 12 in baseball for the second time in nearly four decades, marking a rare return of a major youth baseball tournament to Bulgaria’s capital.

The competition, Euro 2026 U12 Group B, will run from July 6 to July 11 at the Studentski Grad baseball field. It will bring together seven national teams: Austria, Belarus, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, and Ukraine.

The event represents only the second time in around 40 years that Bulgaria has hosted a European baseball championship at this age level, underscoring its significance for the country’s baseball development.

The official opening ceremony is scheduled for Monday at 5:30 p.m. and will take place at the main field of the Oktomvri baseball and softball complex, located between the Medical University of Sofia and the Technical University.

Following the ceremony, the opening game will feature Bulgaria against Belarus, marking the start of the group stage competition.
