The sentence of Ali Bahrampour, a political prisoner and detainee from the 2022 nationwide protests, has been converted to “open-prison” status (Raye-Baz). Under this judicial shift, he will serve the remainder of his prison term outside the walls of Greater Tehran Prison.
According to a report by the Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Bahrampour had been on temporary medical furlough from Greater Tehran Prison since March 30. Following the official conversion of his sentence on June 29, his transition to semi-freedom outside the penitentiary system was finalized.
Bahrampour, a prominent author and instructor specializing in negotiation techniques and communication skills, was violently arrested on November 3, 2022. His detention occurred immediately after he participated in the 40th-day memorial service (Chehelom) for Hadis Najafi, a slain young protester, along the Karaj-Qazvin highway.
In an April 2023 interview with IranWire, Bahrampour detailed the brutal physical and psychological torture he endured while being held by state security forces seeking to extract a forced televised confession.
Bahrampour revealed that interrogators stripped him of his clothes, suspended him by his wrists, and subjected him to severe beatings using stun guns, batons, and wooden rods. Furthermore, intelligence operatives explicitly threatened to arrest his five-year-old son if he refused to confess to fabricated security charges on camera.
